Dawn Patrol by Mike Carr

Dawn Patrol
The classic TSR game Dawn Patrol by Mike Carr. Dawn Patrol, originally titled Fight in the Skies, was conceived in the mind of a 15 year old Mike Carr after watching the classic movie starring George Pappard: Blue Max. While the game is not designed for miniatures play, originally, it was played using 1/72 model aircraft. Since it is easily modified into a miniatures game, we shall include it in the scope of our game reviews.

Scotia Grendle Collectair
Battle of Britain

Scotia Grendel Productions Collectair
Finally all of the 1/300 Aircraft for Battle of Britain by Scotia Grendel Productions have been completed. I was able to review most of the aircraft in this line. Read my review of the group of aircraft that fought over the skies of England in 1940.

Warbirds in Miniature by Aerie Games

Aerie Games
This review examines the Warbirds in Miniature game, along with the AireMats, AireStands, and Minaiture Airplanes offered at www.warbirdsinminiature.com. They have an online store with AireStands (the new love of my life), AireMats (absolutely beautiful), a rules and resource forum, and they have just launched a beta-test version of an online aircraft generator that will allow you to create your own personal aircraft.

Canvas Eagles : War in the Skies by Eric Hotz

Canvas Eagles
This review looks at a derivative of the Blue Max game compiled by Eric Hotz: Canvas Eagles. Canvas Eagels is a freely available world war I airplane miniatures game that expands and improves upon the basics of the Blue Max system.

Blue Max by GDW

Aerie Games
Let's look at a classic game from 1983: Blue Max Dogfights over France, as well as its next iteration Blue Max Miniatures Rules (1995 Allan Wright). Blue Max has got to be one of the BEST aircraft games of all time. When it came out, it had a couple of really neat innovations that are still talked about and used in games today.

Next Month - Heroics and Ros : The Americans

Finally got the images back from the photographer, and am already knee deep in writing reviews of the American aircraft in the World War 2 line for Heroics and Ros Navwar miniature airplanes.

I received a large bin of aircraft and am working my way through them each. Hope to get the American Airplanes all up by mid March at teh latest.

Interview with Allan Wright
Developer of Blue Max Miniature Rules by GDW

GDW
We had the opportunity to interview Alan Wright, co designer and developer of Blue Max Miniature Rules by GDW. Allan describes how he got involved in wargaming and how the Blue Max Miniatures Rules project developed. He also took the time to discuss some of his other projects, and provides a couple links to some great pics of people playing Blue Max.

Interview with Phil Hall
Designer of Blue Max by GDW

GDW
Our first interview on miniature-airplanes.com. It has always been a desire here at MNA (Miniature-airplanes.com) to interview the designers of rules, the sculptors of miniatures, and the developers of miniature aircraft gaming accessories. In September, thanks to the patient efforts of Phil Hall, we finally got our opportunity. This month, we interview the designer of the game Blue Max (1983 GDW), Phil Hall. Phil Hall discusses his gaming hobby as well as how he got into game design, and what he is doing now.

Interview with Jim Callahan
Designer of Aces at Dawn by Majestic Twelve Games

We interviewed Jim Callahan, designer of the World War I miniature airplane wargame Aces at Dawn. Jim has also developed the game For the Masses, also by Majestic Twelve Games. Aces at Dawn is designed so that it can be played with any scale of miniature airplane. I am sure that if you get a chance to play it, you will not be dissapointed in how easy it is to learn or play.

Got an Article or Tip for fellow gamers?

One thing I love about this hobby is sharing information with others. Whether it be simple tips on how to glue a strut onto a 1/300 sopwith camel bi-plane to setting decals on an F-16, I hope that we can share that knowledge with each other. I have a load of tutorials and articles that I have written, and I hope to even get some movies made of some of them to share. If you have anything that you would like to share, please contact me : JohannStahler@yahoo.com.
