Equipment Reviews by Miniature-Airplanes.com
I have used a variety of different flight stands, hex mats, pins, joints, etc. for miniature airplane wargaming.
I will review what I have used, what worls, what didn't work, what others use, and what may be coming down the pipe.
This is a work in progress, and I will continue to add as the days and weeks go on.
Hexmats for Airplane Wargaming
There are a variety of ways to wargame with miniature airplanes. You can play a game on a tabletop, use colored felt fabric to
represent the landscape, or use blank square or hex grids. I have found that they best way to portray air to air combat is to use a
hexmat. I have tried and used several and in this review I give you my take on what works, what doesn't and what I recommend.
Flight Stands for Airplane Wargaming
One of the neatest aspects of an airplane game for me is seeing the aircraft in the air. Over the years many different folks have come up with
a variety of asy to show an aircraft in flight during a dogfight. I have used several different types of flight stands during my airplane
wargaming days and I give you my take on what works the best.
Decals for Airplane Wargaming
Adding decals to an aircraft can not only save you the headache of painting impossibly precise lines, squares or circles, it can also add a superior level of
detail to your model aircraft. There are ways you can custom create your own decals, or buy them premade. Whichever method you choose, decals will add a
nice level of realism to your gaming table.
Next Month - Heroics and Ros : The Americans
Finally got the images back from the photographer, and am already knee deep in writing reviews of the American aircraft in the
World War 2 line for Heroics and Ros Navwar miniature airplanes.
I received a large bin of aircraft and am working my way through them each. Hope to get the American Airplanes all up by mid March at teh latest.
Interview with Allan Wright
Developer of Blue Max Miniature Rules by GDW
We had the opportunity to interview Alan Wright, co designer and developer of Blue Max Miniature Rules by GDW. Allan describes how he got involved in
wargaming and how the Blue Max Miniatures Rules project developed. He also took the time to discuss some of his other projects, and provides
a couple links to some great pics of people playing Blue Max.
Interview with Phil Hall
Designer of Blue Max by GDW
Our first interview on miniature-airplanes.com. It has always been a desire here at MNA (Miniature-airplanes.com) to interview the designers of rules, the sculptors of
miniatures, and the developers of miniature aircraft gaming accessories. In September, thanks to the patient efforts of Phil Hall, we finally got our opportunity.
This month, we interview the designer of the game Blue Max (1983 GDW), Phil Hall. Phil Hall discusses his gaming hobby
as well as how he got into game design, and what he is doing now.
Interview with Jim Callahan
Designer of Aces at Dawn by Majestic Twelve Games
We interviewed Jim Callahan, designer of the World War I miniature airplane wargame Aces at Dawn. Jim has also developed the game For the Masses, also by Majestic Twelve Games.
Aces at Dawn is designed so that it can be played with any scale of miniature airplane. I am sure that if you get a chance to play it, you will not be dissapointed in how easy it is to learn or play.
Got an Article or Tip for fellow gamers?
One thing I love about this hobby is sharing information with others. Whether it be simple tips on how to glue a strut onto a 1/300
sopwith camel bi-plane to setting decals on an F-16, I hope that we can share that knowledge with each other. I have a load of tutorials and articles
that I have written, and I hope to even get some movies made of some of them to share. If you have anything that you would like to share, please contact
